How to Update Exit Date in EPF Account?

An Employee Provident Fund or EPF account is a saving scheme designed for salaried employees in India, in which both the employer and employee monthly contribute 12% of the employee’s basic salary and dearness allowance to the EPF account. This account is managed by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation or EPFO and the accumulated funds earn interest. This account aims to provide financial security and long-term savings for employees, from which they can partially withdraw on special conditions like medical emergencies, home purchases, or higher education. To ensure hassle-free management and transfer of EPF funds across different jobs, a Universal Account Number or UAN is assigned to each member that also facilitates ease of access to account information online.

About Exit Date in EPF Account

The exit date in the EPF Account is the date on which the previous employer provided their final payment to the employee. The exit date in the EPF account needs to be changed, if an employee changes his/her job and moves to a new organization. Employees who are not aware of the process to update the exit date in the EPF account should not worry as the EPFO has introduced an efficient and user-friendly method for the employees to update the exit date. The exit date in the EPF account can be updated only after two months of leaving the job. The system checks whether the employer has made any contribution in the last two months or not, and if there is no contribution made by the employer, then the employee can online update the exit date in the EPF portal.
